How very true this is. The good news is that as they mature, most people find it relatively easy to become who they really are, because you become less entangled in ego and competitiveness, and more focused on spending the time you have in ways that give you satisfaction. We tend to grow into the people we’re meant to be rather than what those around us want us to be. I think that mostly explains why surveys invariably find that, on average, people become happier as they age.
